Product Description

Film favorites Buzz Lightyear and Woody are back in action with their latest video game offering, Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2. The cowboy Woody is in trouble in a game that closely follows the plot of the hit computer-animated flick. Although the game is obviously aimed at luring fans of the movie of the same name, it does contain gameplay that will appeal to a wider audience. Toy Story 2 is not a perfect game, but it captures the playability and humor of the film, and also has movie-quality animations and graphics.

Woody finds himself kidnapped by Al, the evil toy collector, and it's up to Buzz to save the day--with a little help from the other toys in owner Andy's room. Buzz must venture outside Andy's house and into the local neighborhood. Game environments include a perilous construction area, a toy barn, and a sky-rise apartment. Ultimately, Buzz will confront his arch nemesis, the Evil Emperor Zurg--but getting there is half the fun.

During his journey, Buzz must collect missing parts for Mr. Potato Head. He also calls on his buddies Rex, Slinky Dog, and Hamm the piggy bank for helpful tips and directions. Controls are varied but can be confusing to master. Buzz can climb, do a "super foot stomp," fire his laser, and perform a Space Ranger spin attack to help him get through the various levels.

All in all, though, this game's battle cry should be, "To mediocrity... and not much further." --Bill Hutchens

Pros:

  • Better-than-average graphics
  • Includes movie clips that aren't available on the Nintendo 64 version
Cons:
  • Probably too cute for serious gamers
  • Choppy control makes some levels frustrating

Finest Game I've Seen!

This is an amazing game. There's even a movie clip at the beginning. The graphics and sound are superb, and no detail is left overlooked. If Buzz steps in something, he leaves a trail of footprints! The House is so realistic - very 3D and views change as you move the character, as if you're the character and you see what he sees. It feels like you're actually walking through the house. There are a number of challenges to meet; coins need to be collected for Hamm, sheep need to be rescued for Bo Peep, Mr. Potato Head needs his missing ear, Buzz races the RC car; all twists on the movie. When Buzz performs these fun and challenging heroics, the player is rewarded with Pizza Planet tokens. Very well done, absorbing to both children and adults...we're not past level one yet and if we never got to any of the other 14 levels, this game's already "done it" for my family!
Awesome Game - great graphics

my son tested this at the pacific science center in seattle at the cbs toytest when we were on vacation this summer. he felt it was one of the best playstation games he's ever played and did not want to stop playing even though he exceeded the 20 minute play limit by 20 minutes! he's had it on his christmas wish list since august.
Toy Story 2 has fun, graphics, and original movie story line

This game is my 3rd personal favorite (next to Driver and Pacman 2000). It is alot of fun (endless play time, 3-d turns and in-helmet vision). the graphics are beyond great and they even include original movie footage in between challenge sites. I would highly recommend this game to anyone with a sense of adventure, but be forewarned that the 3-D turns Buzz makes can get quite frustrating due to slow camera spins (basically every time you turn to do something, you have to practically sit and wait for the "camera" to catch up with your moves: this makes you dizzy and can cause you to have trouble making accurate jumps or defense moves). Other than that, this game is the bomb! It lives up to the movie version and brings me back to being a kid at heart! i do believe the reason the camera focus is lacking is because they hurried to put the game on the market, so the game had a few glitches. Buy it! You will not regret it! You can look beyond the camera and get really caught up in the pure fun of the Toys and their story.
great for all ages

You have free movement and many different levels. To complete each level you (Buzz Lightyear) need to collect at least one pizza planet token. (5 on each level) To collect the tokens you can:

1. find five of somthing(1st level it's bo peep's sheep)

2. race against the car

3. finding 50 coins to give to Hamm

4. defeating an enemy

5. finding the extra token

Toy Story 2 is a very entertaining game for all ages. The only problem I can think of is that it is a one player game and everyone wants to use it at the same time. Other than that I think it's great and would highly recommend it.

Best Action/Adventure Game For The Playstation...EVER!

You might think this to be a little kid game automatically simply because of the movie, but believe me, it's not. It has superb graphics and excellent level layouts. I love how the levels are so expansive and that you can explore everywhere in them. It has beautiful colors and graphics, and easy controls. It's not that hard for me, but still provides hundreds of hours of entertainment even after you beat the game! With clever design and wonderful level detail, Toy Story 2 is without a doubt the best action/adventure game for the Playstation ever made.
